Luis Enrique returns as Spain manager |
Luis Enrique has returned as Spain manager after taking indefinite leave for personal reasons.
The Former Barcelona manager stepped down from his role in March after the tragic death of his young daughter, with assistant Robert Moreno taking over.
“Today we can confirm that Luis Enrique will return to his position,” Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales said at a press conference on Tuesday morning.
“We have acted sincerely, we have not deceived anyone. Everyone knew that if Luis Enrique wanted to come back he had the doors open.”
Spain have gone undefeated in Euro qualifying under Moreno, with four wins and two draws forming his tenure.
He was given a contract by the Spanish Football Federation until the conclusion of the Euro 2020 Championships, but said in September he would stand aside should Enrique feel ready to return to the job.
Moreno reportedly left the stadium following Spain's 5-0 win over Romania on Monday in tears, refusing to speak to the media after hearing of the decision to reinstate Enrique.
